Accent Modification

Feeling sound is most important in creating a clear accent and clear speech.

An interesting fact: Before you create a North American English accent, the sounds you feel are the sounds you know. These are the sounds in your first language.

When you learn to feel the sounds in North American English, you can produce each different sound with your mouth.

AND you can feel all the sounds in your first language!

This work is challenging but so rewarding – like climbing a mountain or learning to dance!          â€‹

The Basic Course

Initial analysis

A written vocal history helps you check in on your past vocal work

and helps me create an individual course exclusively for you.

Two readings

       a. Paragraphs to hear your accent in sentences.

       b. Tongue twisters to explore your sound challenges.

These are interesting, if not a bit strange! And fun!

A Written evaluation of sounds you use:

     a. The sounds in your first language

     b. Those you already use in North American English

Then Our Real Work Begins

Play with consonants:

To feel the sound differences between your first language and North American English,

learn to feel the differences, produce them accurately, and enjoy both!

Sing (not really because I can’t) on vowels:

     Many more than "A, E, I, O, U – sometimes Y"

Actually there are 22 in North American English…sometimes more!

There is more work in North American English than those languages that have only five vowels! Lucky them!

Produce pitch and rhythm patterns

     Like dancing!

    In your first language

    In North American English

With words you use every day

And, yes, I adjust these exercises to fit your specific challenges.

This is where you really see the benefit of 1:1 work!

There is a Caveat!               Isn’t There Always?
